Oh, the most recent blog making the rounds: www.aflightrisk.blogspot.com. In summary, a rich heiress attempts to escape her family. If it's a hoax, it's very well researched. 5:15 AM Happy post Mother's Day. For Mother's Day I had the following as my away message (off carol of the bells):
Hark how the bells, sweet silver bells, all seem to say, do it my way Mother is here do not slouch dear, do as you're told, or I will scold, Oh how they pound, raising the sound, o'er hill and dale, telling their tale, Loudly they ring while mothers sing words to strike fear, Mother is here, Merry, merry, merry, merry Mother, Merry, merry, merry, merry Mother, On on they send , on without end, their noisy tone to every home Dong Ding dong ding, dong Bong My Mother replied in e-mail with, from Poe's the Bells: See the lawyers with the Will-- Ironclad Will! What a world of disenchantment when they present their bill! In the e-mail of tonight How the son will be affright When sees he the grumpy menace of the Mom For the message for "away" Shouldn't have seen the light of day Mutant carols are a bomb Mom-dissing lines, lines, lines Leading to (mean sons will find) To the disinheritation that inevitably spills From the Will, Will, Will, Will Will, Will, Will The whining and the whingeing of the Will. So yes, between this update and the last I have tried to sell my sister and written a poem that had the lines 'words to strike fear/Mother is here'. In other news, I'm going to live with these people for a few months starting in a few days. I'm vaguely considering starting a seperate anarchic blog because you people don't care about it, but I like to ramble about it. I've been into economics recently. Gonna try to get some books on the subject (for summary, I favor communism for resources like land, food and to a certain degree housing, and then free market socialism for amenities, but then, this is based on very cursory glances over the whole subject. I need to read Proudhon). 5:12 AM Saturday, May 10, 2003
Sale!
I have decided to sell my kid sister! I couldn't find any pictures of her, so here's a picture of her soul Her name is Jenny Knox and her most positive attribute is that she is related to me. She has managed to warp that, however, by being generally tiresome, so I have decided to sell her! Now, I'm not a cruel person, so I'm not selling her as a new sister for someone, no, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy, and she couldn't be her own sister anyway. Here are some possible uses for her: I'm sure there are other uses, like scarecrow, freak show member, hitler, bogeywoman, etc. And how much am I asking for her? You decide! There's no minimum bid and the only s&h is chloroform and gas prices. Please take her. Please. Later edit: what the fuck? The soul picture was supposed to be a black square, somehow it became some chick. Fixed. 9:47 AM Wednesday, May 07, 2003
I apologise muchly for not updating recently; perhaps now was not a good time to start it up again. Regardless...I think that SHORT FICTION FRIDAY will become SHORT FICTION EVERY OTHER FRIDAY, which, granted, doesn't have quite the same ring, but is considerably more plausible. I would just make it SHORT FICTION WHENEVER I FEEL LIKE IT, but I really need deadlines.
Now I will share an insight I had the other night. Division of labor is, of course, as old as settlements. Aristotle pointed out that if we all tried to do every job, if we all tried to farm our food, cook our food, make our televisions, fix our cars, etc., that this would end up with all jobs done less efficiently and less well. However, in doing this-delegating what would otherwise be our responsibilities to others-we lose the ability ourselves. Why farm your own food if agribusiness will do it for you? Why fix your tv if you can hire someone? By and large this is a necessary evil, as Aristotle points out. However, there are some jobs which their mere existence is extremely detrimental to individuals and society. Ironically, all of these jobs claim to help society. They are no different, however: when we have a priest telling us what is good and what is evil, we lose the ability to determine for ourselves what is good and what is evil. When the policeman polices, no one polices themselves. When a ruler rules, no one rules themselves. Some might say that these are regrettably necessary evils as well, that we need them, that people can't think for themselves. But this is cyclical logic: the existence of police means we can't police ourselves, and we need police because we can't police ourselves. Since the age of reason most people have discovered that they could in fact determine good and evil for themselves and today priests hold little power. Despite the dire predictions of most middle age citizens, this has not led to 'anarchy' or chaos, no, in fact most people would agree that the debilitation of religion has had nothing but a positive effect on society. Perhaps someday people will realise that people need police as much as they need priests, and man can really start living. 3:13 AM Friday, May 02, 2003
Went and got a good anarcho link for May Day, from which I think I got most of my information:
Anarchy FAQ A.5.2 12:03 PM Well, I updated, and then it deleted my post and indeed blogger was down for the night. I'm considering getting off blogger, really; it's getting quite tiresome, constantly submitting posts, and constantly having them get deleted on the way.
I was going to wish everyone a Happy May Day. That's Berlin; here's Berkeley. And Stockholm too. Anyway, for a now very brief history of May Day: Sometime in the 1800s labor unions called a large general strike for stuff like shorter hours, etc. on May 1st. In Chicago the union was dominated by anarchists, and they got something like 80k workers marching on the street. This led to skirmishes with the cops, who fired into the crowd with live ammo, and at least one striker died. In retaliation they decided to hold protests again the next day, and someone, it is not known to this day who, threw a bomb. The state of course blamed the anarchists in general, and anarchists are hard to round up, so they just grabbed 8 leaders of the anarchist movement. They put them on trial saying all the while that they were not guilty and that it was anarchy that was on trial, against law. If you were on the side of this country they were guilty. They were, of course, found guilty (they weren't even allowed to speak in their defence, and their evidence was not submitted). Years later the governor pardoned them, but it was long posthumuous: they all died. I'm not sure what of, I think only one was executed, but the state led directly to all their deaths. In memorium May Day is called to honor their memory. The only anarchist holiday to strike it big. In the grand tradition of anarchist products, though, the commies co-opted it and the liberals avoided the whole thing and made their own (Labor Day). --- Here, sorry again about not updating last night, blogger just killed the whole thing. I'm working on the short fiction for SHORT FICTION FRIDAY, which sadly I got most of the way through, only to realise that it couldn't really be told this way, and I had to start all over from another perspective. Bah. And this after writing half of another only to realise I had nowhere to go with it. Oh well, hopefully it'll be at least readable. This will just be a first draft type thing, so I promise no Poe. Ctrl + A, Ctrl + C 12:00 PM |
